The Karnataka Pharma Retailers & Distributors Organisation (KPRDO) has expressed serious concern over Macleods Pharmaceuticals’ decision to appoint a new dealer exclusively for handling special discount offers and supplies across Karnataka, specifically in Bengaluru.
According to C Jayaram, president of KPRDO, this move disregards and excludes existing wholesalers, stockists, and dealers who have been appointed by the company. Jayaram emphasized that this decision could disrupt the longstanding cooperative relationship between Macleods Pharmaceuticals and the trade community, describing it as a troubling development.
“We are disappointed and strongly oppose this unexpected action by the company. It’s difficult to comprehend why such a decision was made, especially considering our years of collaboration,” said Jayaram.
He highlighted the crucial role played by wholesalers, stockists, dealers, and retailers in ensuring the widespread availability of Macleods Pharmaceuticals’ products throughout Karnataka. Jayaram acknowledged the challenges faced by the industry, including competition from large retail chains offering deep discounts and the rise of private limited or LLP wholesale establishments.
In response to these challenges, Jayaram underscored the loyalty and support extended by KPRDO members to Macleods Pharmaceuticals over the decades, contributing to its position as a leading pharmaceutical company in the state.
Jayaram strongly criticized the creation of a monopoly by appointing an exclusive dealer, bypassing existing stockists and wholesalers. He stressed that such a move undermines the efforts and investments made by longtime partners of the company.
“In light of these concerns, we urge Macleods Pharmaceuticals to reconsider this decision and continue supporting its distribution partners by utilizing the services of existing appointed stockists and wholesalers,” Jayaram concluded.
